What is Dragon Hobby Expo?

Dragon Models Ltd is one of the leading manufacturers of hobby products and collectibles with product lines ranging from plastic model kits and action figures, to die-cast vehicles and airplanes. Established in 1987, DML has since then won numerous awards in quality and excellence from various modeling magazines and societies. To this day, Dragon continues to manufacturer and produce one of the highest quality products in the hobby market.

In 2004, the first Dragon Hobby Expo was organized as part of the Weekend of Heroes show in Ontario, California. The purpose of the show was to help expand the hobby by providing a platform for military enthusiasts to gather and discover what the hobby has to offer. The following year, Dragon Hobby Expo collaborated with the IPMS National Convention for a joint show in Atlanta and the format was met with much laudation. Sensing a need for more direct connection between the manufacturers and the scale modelers, the Dragon Hobby Expo / IPMS Nationals collaboration brought the two sides together in one venue. Also invited by Dragon to the shows were other major manufacturers in the industry including Hasegawa, Tamiya, Italeri, Zvezda, and others to help promote the hobby directly to the consumers. In 2007, the two shows collaborated again in Anaheim, CA with much success, follow by Virginia Beach in 2008.

The Dragon Hobby Expo was organized with the hobbyists in mind, which is why our motto is "A show for hobbyists, by the hobbyists". Our goal is to promote and expand the hobbies of scale modeling and military action figures through various exclusive products and events and activities during the course of the show. For each show, Dragon has invited several "VIPs", World War II veterans to attend the show as a guest of honor. The VIPs were made available to talk to attendees and to share their experiences with them. Also, Dragon would make a 1/6 scale action figure, as well as other show exclusives based on the VIP for the attendees to collect and enhance their show experience. There is also a dinner event after a show day where the attendees could site down and dine with the VIP.

Other activities during past Dragon Hobby Expo shows include scale model and action figure "kitbashing" contests, guest seminars and lectures by renowned modelers and military artists, diorama displays, military vehicle and uniform displays, trivia contests, and trips to local military vehicle museums. Additionally, Dragon Hobby Expo features a large vendor area where several vendors and retail hobby shops set up booths and sell their products and show exclusives to the attendees.
